downtown san jose and finally to the hp pavilion where there's going to be quite a crowd expected. if you can't make it to the hp pavilion, they'll have alternate viewing locations in santa cruz via big screen tv. the doors of the kaiser permanen permanente arena will open at 10:00 a.m. the theater at 11:00. bob redell, "today in the bay." >> reporter: thank you, bob. you mentioned everyone will end up here at hp pavilion in downtown san jose. it will be a packed house at capacity actually. officials are expecting 18,000 to 20,000 people to show up here to pay their final respects to say final goodbyes to sergeant lauren baker and officer elizabeth butler. the procession is expected to arrive here at hp closer to 10:00 this morning. it will include more than 200 law enforcement vehicles including vehicles from fire departments and the santa cruz county criminal justice agencies. the memorial is scheduled to get under way at noon in the audience today some 6,000 officers from all over the bay area and statewide. also thousands of just regular citizens who just feel compelled to say their f

in san jose because there was no venue large enough in santa cruz. the funeral procession will leave the santa cruz boardwalk at 8:45 a.m. 200 vehicles will be traveling 33 miles taking highway 17 to 85 to 87 and then exiting here in san jose on julian street. again, that service starts at noon here at hp pavilion. it is expected to run until 3 p.m. live in san jose, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> there will be two locations in santa cruz where people can watch the service from san jose. one is at the kaiser permanente arena at 140 front street. the other at the del mar theater at 1124 pacific avenue. the live video feed from the hp pavilion begins at 11:00. the venues open at 10:00. seating will be on a first come first served basis. public transit is available to get to the pavilion. an express bus will run from santa cruz to san jose on its normal schedule this morning. free vouchers will be available for those attending the memorial service. amtrak and caltrain also serve downtown san jose. they are offering free travel for law enforcemen

will be set aside today. we will see three mayors coming together, the mayors of santa clara, san jose, and san francisco, promoting the idea of having a super bowl right here in this new same. they are promising a dynamic super bowl where you do not have to worry about electricity. they promise you will thought see a power outage like the super bowl in new orleans. the new stadium will have two new electrical substations and solar panels to provide extra energy. the new stadium is about 30 percent complete. it is set to open next year. it will cost about $1.2 billion to build. it is a finalist to host the 2016 super bowl. it is now between santa clara and south florida. this is the first super bowl here in the bay area since 1985 and 49er owner says the bid committee will present the bid at ownerss' meeting in may when the host city is chosen, so, today the mayors, the c.e.o., all will be showing off the stadium. they will give tours to the media. they will lay out the reasons why the super bowl should be held right here in santa clara. >> thank you. palo alto police have released a s

for an invasion. >>> thousands of people who earn the minimum wage in san jose just got a raise. they are making $10 an hour. it's because voters approved the $2 an hour pay hike in november. chuck reed is concerned some businesses won't be able to handle the hike. the mayor is concerned about people who are likely to lose their jobs. >> as the minimum wage goes up, small businesses in particular will make accommodations, some of them will absorb the cost, some will pass it on to customers and some will lay people off. >> a campaign is kicking off to encourage people to spend extra earnings in san jose. >>> redwood city could join many of its neighbors on the peninsula tonight and vote to ban most retailers from from giving out single use plastic bags. the plan before the city council would also require a 10- cent charge for paper bags. and san mateo county adopted a plastic bag ban in november. the county says only a small percentage of bags are recycled. >>> thomas frazier begins work today as the oakland police department compliance direct

. a service will be held on thursday at noon at hp pavilion in san jose. there will be a procession from santa cruz to san jose before that memorial. >>> speaking of san jose police, they could end up releasing the identity today of the man who led them on a 20-minute high-speed chase and he ends up dead. this is video of that chase that started about 2:30 saturday afternoon. the chase ends up in south san jose in a neighborhood there where police finally boxed in car in. the man got out of his car and he ran. officers thought he was armed. they opened fire. ultimately killing that man. despite speeds up to 100 miles an hour, no officers or bystanders were hurt. >>> there was a shooting in sonoma county, san francisco, union city and hayward. in hayward police say the suspect rammed his car into place cruiser during a traffic stop yesterday morning. the driver sped off and crashed nearby. investigators are not sure if that crash contributed to the passenger's death. the driver was arrested. all five shootings are subject to internal reviews and officers involved in these shootings are he main

of child porn seized from the home of a substitute teacher in san jose. he was arrest wednesday where he taught. but he was also a substitute teacher in san jose's school district from 2009 until just last month. the superintendent of that district sent out letters to parents with information about his address and the list of schools that he worked in. he's at valuely med on a psychiatric hold after trying to commit suicide last night. >> there simply wasn't enough evidence, that's what the army is saying, about a decision to discharge the soldier instead of prosecuting him on rape charges. that soldier, jeremy goulet. he was accused of two rapes while in the army in 2006. former defense secretary leon pinetta and members of congress have demanded investigation into why the military did not prosecute these cases. today, an army spokesman defended the decision saying in one case, dna didn't match. in another case, a victim could not id him. the army says they need a deal that included an honorable discharge. >> for the first time in three years, the san jose police department toured in 34

property in the south bay. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is in san jose this morning where warnings went out several days ago. >> reporter: the city says it gave these people 72 hours notice and today they are planning a clean-up. i'm on spring street in san jose and you can see campers remain on this public property. the clean-up though is set to begin this morning. and the city says it's going up to its police presence here. about 100 people having living in this encampment near the guadalupe parkway river. it's one of an estimated 60 camps throughout santa clara county. this one is in the flight path of the san jose airport so it's been spotted from above and it quickly grew after another sweep of a homeless encampment nearby. >> you move them interest one spot and they pop up in another -- you move them from one spot and they pop up in another. >> it's frustrating but part of the process. we have to be consistent as i said in our application on how we work with people. if we continue to work, i think everyone at the city believes that we will have

with developing story i san jose police looking for a gunman who they say shot a man in an apparent drive-by shooting. >> here is the place we're talking about. the address is 1720 hopkins and drive. that is a middle school area. let me push in and show you the area we're talking about. this again a middle school nestled in a community. police said the victim between 18 and 20 years old was standing on the sidewalk when a light colored guess you the drove by and someone opened fire. the victim remains in a hospital this morning their condition remains unknown. that happened just about 2 mi. away from monday's deadly officer involved shooting. authorities have identified bruce barthelemy as the san jose police officer was shot and killed a man they said tried to ram him with a car. this is video from our helicopter partnership with abc seven news. the officer, members of san jose metro unit, were dressed in plain clothes when they noticed a suspicious car and found out it was stolen. the passenger in the stolen car is now facing several charges. >> a train hit and killed a pedestrian on th

"today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live with a look at the proposals and where the money is coming from to pay for them. good morning, bob. >> reporter: no dollar figure has been put on these proposals as of yet. good morning, laura. the city council will later today discuss the proposals to help improve the homelessness situation in the south bay. the most recent figures estimate there are 7,000 people that do not have homes. some living in one of these 60 or so encampments that have sprung up in wooded areas and along waterways. the city took down one of the largest encampments. they evicted dozens of people from a camp that had been set up on city-owned land. about 100 people had set up their tents in that area. the problem is, where do they go? most likely to other encampments. today, the city council will discuss solutions put forward by counselman sam lacaro. they report that ideas include building more affordable housing,
